When I visited New York for the first time about 12 years ago, I was sure the coffee was going to be as robust and flavorful as the culture. Much to my disappointment, I was flabbergasted by how many restaurants, delis and diners were serving weak, watery coffee. What a disappointment not to mention an insult to the food! Shouldn't it be given the same respect as wine? Hmph.
As the time approached to choose the coffee we would serve at the bakery I knew I could take the cheap way out, but I couldn't stand for it. Not caring about what coffee you serve is like doing 99 push-ups and then giving up! I'd heard a lot about Stumptown at the time but they were out in Oregan and (rightly) refused to ship us beans based on quality control.
Well guess what! They have finally opened on the East Coast and we are so excited to be serving it now. We love them so much we even made room to sell their beans. The response to our coffee has been incredible. People have actually re-directed their morning route to score a cup before work. We can't blame them-it pairs so supremely with our cupcakes.
