BabyCakes Downtown?!?!

bankdistrict.JPG We made our big announcement that we will be opening our first LA location in the historic Bank District of Los Angeles yesterday via newsletter to our mailing list. We knew we would receive mixed opinions from our LA people, but we had no idea this would be so controversial!

Look. We know downtown isn't West Hollywood. We are aware that it can be a pain to travel there. We get it. But we all know the economy's doing weird stuff and has challenged us to get creative with our expansion budget. We are aware of the parking situation, and are working on a deal to get free, convenient parking for our customers. We also know that many of you have small children and it's just too much to get in the car to beat the traffic. No prob. We're working on a dessert truck that will park in central locations too (we're looking at you West Hollywood and Silverlake).

But you know what? We kind of love downtown. And by love I mean adore. The block we have chosen reminds us of our beloved Broome Street location. The art culture is rich, the community is passionate, and there are a lot of cool businesses making a name for it already.

Those of you eager to come, we look forward to knocking back a frosting shot with you! Thanks for your support!

I live in downtown and am really excited that you'll be coming here; a lot of new businesses are coming and helping to reinvigorate this area of the city.

can't wait!

I live in San Diego - and am just thrilled you're coming to the west coast!! I'll be making the drive when you open!!! Hooray!!!

Don't worry about the haters, we'll love you downtown. Welcome to the neighborhood.

USC is close by too, so expect us students to be lining up. Welcome to LA!

Welcome to the neighborhood! You've made the perfect choice about your location. It will be such a wonderful addition to the other new businesses in the area.

Yea! I will be counting down the days. And good for you- downtown is great.

I love downtown LA too and am so glad that you decided to open there! I'll definitely check you guys out when you open. Best of luck!

Oh, you guys!! Thank you for the love and such warm welcomes. It means so much to us. CANNOT WAIT to get this thing opened!!!!

The 40,000+ residents of downtown welcome you! You will find it to be one of the more pedestrian-friendly parts of L.A. and people will find a way to come down for good eats. Yum!

You guys are awesome! I heard about you guys and checked out your website and now I can't wait until I get to try out your treats! :) Downtown LA is on such a huge upswing and you guys are the perfect people to add to that revitalization!

I live in the building. WELCOME! Welcome to downtown and to the historic Pacific Electric Building. Google that and find out about it! Lots of fun to be had there. You'll learn a lot about trolley cars, and interurban trains, and maybe even the development of Southern California. There's a lot more history in the building than you probably realized.

You'll be eating lunch at Cole's a lot too. You'll love the french dip sandwiches.

Believe me, we Downtowners cannot wait for your arrival. I've gotten so many positive replies on Twitter (@angelenic) when I linked to GlutenFreeway's post!

And I'm sure you would do well to cater to the corporate set too - there aren't many good cupcakes in Downtown LA.

I personally cannot wait because I live across the street from your new location =)

I live on the next street over and I cannot wait for you to get here!

YUM - Welcome to the neighborhood! THRILLED to hear the news and can't wait to meet you-- and to sample the sweets! My husband and I own the chic pet boutique across the street - Pussy & Pooch. We regularly serve cupcakes to the human companions during our many in-store events... so looking forward to partnering with you on that as soon as you're settled-in. If you need anything, don't hesitate to neighbor... Goodluck!
Janene & Rob

Welcome to 6th street! Can't wait for you to open. Breakfast at Nickel Diner, lunch at LA Blu or J+Js, pick up some dog food for the critters at Pussy and Pooch, dinner and drinks at Coles, and now dessert at Babycakes, then a short elevator ride back up to my loft. There's no need to ever catch the #16 to WeHo ever again.

ohmygosh! cannot WAIT!

Welcome to Downtown! I love cupcakes but my waistline hates 'em! So it's a good thing you're a healthier alternative :)

I think your decision to move downtown is a great idea. Very savvy business move! I work in downtown, and I eat out here A LOT. There are plenty of high-end restaurants, a handful of mid-range cafes, plenty Asian restaurants, tons of bars and a few down-to-earth meaty restaurants, but there are almost no fancy schmancy bakeries. Compare that with WeHo and the mid-city cafe corridor, where you can't spit without hitting a bakery or cafe with an impressive dessert case. We need something like Babycakes here in downtown!

You guys are worth the travel to whatever neighborhood(s) you end up in. I'm especially happy since I live on the eastside. Selfish me! Welcome to LA! Now hurry up and get here already! I'm dyin' for a cupcake and some crumbcake and umm.....

While I am a NY gal, I am SUPER-EXCITED for your new LA opening! You guys deserve serious praise for your baking passion and I am ridiculously thrilled about your new babycakes cookbook!! All the best to you!

I'm excited! I'm not vegan but can't wait for a bakery to open up across the street from me! Yay.

I live in Silverlake and I just can't believe my luck that you are going to be downtown. I love it! My dad just got your book for me for my birthday and I was thrilled that you were in La Jolla signing so mine is super special! Really looking forward to have a Baby Cakes so close by!!

That is sooooo exciting!!!! I can't wait. I had my first Babycakes cookie the other day and I LOVED IT! I live in downtown LA and I will be there when you open. I wrote about you guys on my blog. Check it out:
