What kind of flours do you use for gluten free items?
Either a garbanzo/fava bean flour mix or rice flour is used for our gluten free items.

What kind of flours do you use for wheat free?
Spelt flour, an alternative grain to wheat is used in place of wheat. BabyCakes customers are urged make sure spelt is a flour is safe for their diet.

Should there be concern regarding cross-contamination?
BabyCakes realizes that many people are concerned about cross-contamination, because spelt flour is used in our facilities. We take every precaution to ensure that gluten-free items are not corrupted by spelt flour. We use separate pans, sinks, spatulas, measuring cups, cleaning utensils and bowls. During the baking process, we bake gluten free items first and wipe down the oven between baking. Although we take every precaution to ensure a safe gluten free environment, it is ultimately up to the consumer to decide her comfort level.

What kind of sweeteners do you use in your sugar free items?
BabyCakes uses Blue Agave nectar, an all natural low glycemic sweetener derived from a cactus. It is commonly safe for type 2 diabetics with non-insulin dependency.

What sweeteners do you use for non sugar free items?
Unrefined, unprocessed cane juice.

Toddler's Health
Toddlers need a diet with sufficient fat for growth. What they don't need is highly processed oils found in most baked goods. Recently assembled scientific studies See Dr Mary Enig's "Know Your Fats" show that virgin (unrefined and non-hydrogenated) coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-viral and anti-protozoal properties leading to many identified health benefits. Dr Enig also believes lactating women using it will further increase their monolauric milk content to the benefit of the nursing babies and studies are being devised to prove this hypothesis.

What if I’m allergic to soy and dairy?
BabyCakes can bake most items without soy. Special orders must be made in advance.

Is Babycakes nut-free?
All of BabyCakes baking equipment was purchased brand new and there have never been nuts in the facility. All ingredients purchased have been checked from purveyors and assured to come from nut free facilities as well. The only exception is the cocoa powder and chocolate chips in which they are processed on equipment that is free from nuts, although unfortunately there are nuts within the facility. It is up to the BabyCakes customer to determine whether or not consuming products with chocolate is a safe choice for them.
