Quick Pic of Downtown Disney BabyCakes

DIS2.jpegThanks to someone who posted this photo on the internet-- you can now see what our Downtown Disney location looks like. It's a bit of a detour from our knick knack filled NY and LA stores but we like the clean look! Most importantly, everything tastes perfect and is just as delicious as our other shops. We run specials every day so be sure to follow our Disney store on Twitter: DTDBabyCakesNYC so you can get the latest scoop and special deals! Our phone number is 407.938.9044 and we are taking orders. If you want to swing by, remember to find the building marked "Fresh A-Peel" and go on inside to find us. We don't have a sign just yet. Ok, then! See you soon...

Thanksgiving Menu

pie.jpegAs promised, here's our Thanksgiving menu below. We did our best to include all the popular things and even included the new Apple Cobbler (my personal favorite). We are almost booked for Thanksgiving week so be sure to call today to see if there's room left! We will also be offering the Thanksgiving menu exclusively from November 22nd at 10am until we close at 8pm on November 24th to serve our walk in customers but get there early! We tend to get pillaged.

Just Say No to Tofurky

tofurky.jpegLook, I know some of you are going to disagree with me but I'm over Tofurky. I don't have anything against the thing, as I think it's a way to get that turkey fix without sacrificing an animal but I'm at the point where I think we can all do a little better. Here's a really fantastic round of of vegetarian Thanksgiving recipes that the New York Times just posted. It celebrates the flavors of the season without using mock meats and everything looks gorgeous. Note! Not all of the recipes are vegan! Click here and take a look...

Employee Spotlight! Rachel Feriozzi

locker.jpgWhen we hired Rachel Feriozzi a long while back we were stoked because she was fast, hard-working, did a perfect job on the baked goods and could also do very crafty things like make the Mounds into cat shapes or cookies into cat shapes which is way more advanced than me. She's also obsessed with laminating everything so that's that. The kids in the bakery were stumped by her a little because she refused to be Facebook friends with anyone (what?!?!?) because she prefers to keep to herself which is cool and mature of her--we get it.

So Rachel has always had this shroud of mystery around her and doesn't really divulge much about her life other than the occasional perplexing story about a peanut M&M that she ate that had two peanuts in it instead of one or how puzzling the statement "the door is ajar" was to her as a child, because doors certainly weren't jars. Ok....But this is the charm of Rachel! And we're always happy when she's working.

The other day I went down to where the employee's "lockers" (plastic crates) are which is where everyone hastily shoves their regular clothes, shoes and other random stuff. But not Rachel. No. Never. Her locker instead is a celebration of Christmas as you can see over to the left here. WOW! It's so...festive! I was pretty speechless so I had to snap a photo and decided Rachel's employee spotlight time was upon us. So here's to Rachel! May her laminator never break and her festival of lights never burn out.

Halloween Costumes?

charro.jpgI think I'm getting too old for this, but every year it seems like it's not such a bad idea to dress up for Halloween. I used to be a costumer way before BabyCakes so it's in my blood to enjoy a good dress up session. Last year I was Charro,as you can see here to the left, and my niece (next to me) was brilliantly Selena.

This year I'm stumped again and think that maybe I should let you all decide what I should be. Any ideas? What are you going to be?

Mark Bittman...

bittman.jpeg

For those of you who don't know who Mark Bittman is, you should change that. He's a very smart and often funny food writer at the NY Times as well as author of the well known cookbooks, How to Cook Everything, How to Cook Everything Vegetarian, and (my personal favorite) Food Matters. Buy them here. His diet is cool--a self proclaimed lessmeatatarian who invented VB6 (eating vegan before 6pm every day) to do his part to cut back on the global warming crisis. Now, I know some vegans out there might be critical of this but he has made an outstanding impact on so many peoples lives and because of this more and more people are opening up to thoughtful eating that I think he should win a major huge trophy.

Ok, now I get to fan-out: look at these behind the scenes shots he took at the set of The Minimalist (his show) yesterday. Yep, that's totally a bunch of BabyCakes all scarfed up in those boxes. Cool, cool.

Sunday is Pickle Day in the LES

GUS.jpegWell, not sure what to do about this annual Pickle Day celebration here in the Lower East Side this Sunday. Now that pickles are finding themselves on the tables of many fancy restaurants around town we're expecting it to be Quite The Event here in the neighborhood (well, to be fair it always has been QUITE the event but I suppose I was just trying to show you I know something about food trends).

So the question is: what's a bakery to do? Pickled lemonade (no)? Pickle cookies (NO!!!)? Pickle donuts (please no!)? Pickle frosting (again: no). We're tossing around the idea of pickle pizza but that just sounds gross to me. Any ideas out there? What would you eat? Maybe we should just stick to what we do best and be the sweet relief, the pickle-free palette cleanser between salty, sour pickle crunches. What do you think? Also, do you think SNOOKI will be there?!?!? (ahhhhh! I totally watch Jersey Shore, sorry...).
