VEGAN DESSERTS 2.0 by Rebecca Marx

Like the pastry world's version of breast implants, vegan sweets (the good ones, anyway) have become indistinguishable from their conventional counterparts.

Dry, flavorless, hurts after you eat it,” says Amanda Felt, reciting the charges most commonly leveled at vegan desserts. As the owner of Portland’s vegan Black Sheep Bakery, she’s heard them all over the course of the nine years she’s been in business. “I think there were a lot of unfortunate potlucks,” she says with a laugh.

Valentines Day Specials

When my boyfriend is in trouble, he comes to the bakery with a fistful of flowers. When I'm the one in the wrong (listen, this rarely the case), he'll get a delivery of, say, red velvet cupcakes. Maybe I'm biased but I think getting the cupcakes is a way sweeter deal.

The point?

Why not deliver cupcakes to your Valentine this year instead of flowers? We nestle them in these super cool boxes that make them look like adorable treasures. Green Connoisseur Magazine even featured it here!

You know how quickly we book so call ahead!

BabyCakes NYC's Red Velvets Most Lady Like

TownandCountry.jpgThe cupcake business in NYC is very much like a New Yorker: cut-throat, persnickety, extravagant, and really knows how to party. So when Town and Country featured Red Velvet cupcakes from the city's best bakeries, we blushed when they named us the prettiest. How sweeeeeet!!!

Now, don't get me wrong, the cupcakes are a major crowd pleaser, but we have some other cool gift ideas in the works too (think DIY cookie mix). Make sure to check our menu page soon for seasonal additions.

The Get Ahead Guide: Erin McKenna Makes the Best Cupcakes in New York City
Now she wants to go national. How fast can she grow? By Aviva Yael.

Walk into BabyCakes NYC, a vegan bakery in New York City, and you feel as if you have entered a sweets shop right out of Valley of the Dolls. The place is packed with Nancy Sinatra records, Pyrex-style plates, and other '60s memorabilia. But though the vibe is decidedly mod, the business is very 2008. BabyCakes sells gluten-free cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and pastries, made with ingredients such as coconut oil and bean flour and topped with agave-nectar frosting. New York named BabyCakes' cupcake the city's best in 2006, and founder Erin McKenna has been featured on Martha Stewart's show. A second BabyCakes store will open this fall in Los Angeles.
