If you are at all interested in food, and in particular baking, and are not already reading the magnificent pastry chef/author/Parisian expat David Lebovitz's blog, you need to start immediately: davidlebovitz.com​. It is probably the best free education you'll ever come across. I first met him a few years back when he popped by BabyCakes and found him to be one of my absolute favorite people to be around. He is hilarious and knows lots about nearly everything.

We made this video on his most recent trip, when he stopped by the bakery to meet some fans and sign copies of his latest book, The Sweet Life In Paris. (Go get it now, are you crazy!?) We squeezed in a quick conversation about a bunch of things, followed by a donut tutorial from the latest BabyCakes book, BabyCakes Covers the Classics. Then David modeled, or tried to model, the new Built By Wendy uniforms the bakery girls wear … I'm talking full almost-frontal-but-definitely-topless Lebovitz!

Hey look, me and the bakery crew went to the park! While we were there celebrating, I unveiled two brand new summer t-shirts for their eager little eyes and bods. They say "BabyCakes: Have a Rad Summer." Look for them here if you want: babycakesnyc.com

The song, "Go Outside," is courtesy of my niece, Madeline Follin, and her BF, Brian Oblivion. Their band is named Cults and currently they're on tour in France of all places! The shirt designs (there are two!) are by BabyCakes NYC's own Lizz Hickey and Chelley Sherman. The video was directed by David Mettler, shot by Jon Miller, and edited by Justin Gallaher, as usual.

Hello December! We're just going to put it right out there: This one is an absolute doozy, and for good reason... we're finally just about almost kind of ready to open up the Los Angeles outpost of BabyCakes NYC! So we called some of our pals and pulled this nifty little item together: There is action, furry Sasquatch, ZZ Top, showgirls, a jacuzzi. There is a farmer and some chickens and a stationwagon. Really there is nothing this thing doesn't have! Brace yourself, Southern California: BabyCakes NYC opens in Los Angeles December 2009 (we're built, just waiting on the final bits of paperwork!!). This little slice of "high-definition" magic is in honor of the publication of my first-ever baking book, BabyCakes. I'm obviously pretty excited. When the first copy arrived at my doorstep, I hurried it on over to BabyCakes the bakery, sizzled up the juke, and started going very nuts. Then all the other girls joined in.
